Spring has officially sprung!  Warmer weather affects a lot of aspects of life.  Wardrobes are being switched out.  Yard care is being resumed.  What about your car?  There are different aspects of car care that are affected by seasons and weather.  Make sure your car is road-ready with our auto maintenance tips.  This helps prevent the chances of you running into trouble down the road.

Here are our Auto Maintenance Tips To get you ready for spring

#1 Tires

Air pressure is affected by temperatures.  With the changing seasons, many drivers notice an air pressure alert on their cars.  Make sure you keep the right air amount in your tires.  If your car does not have an automatic alert to notify about low air pressure, make sure you have your own air pressure gauge.  An additional factor to consider with your tires is wear and tear.

Tires get worn down by weather, road conditions, driving habits and over time.  Whether it is a tire rotation or changing tires completely, making sure your car has good tires increases your safety on the road.  As a general guideline, tires should be rotated every six months or 6,000 to 8,000 miles.  Tires should be completely replaced every six years regardless of how many miles have been driven.

When you take your car in for tire service, make sure you have the mechanic look at another important component of operation…the fluid levels.

#2 Fluids

Just like it is important to keep your body hydrated, it is vital to the operation of your car to keep the fluids topped off and changed as needed.  They not only help to keep your car running, but also help to maintain the quality of the other parts of your car too.

The seven important fluids in your car are:

  • Oil
  • Radiator Fluid
  • Transmission Fluid
  • Power Steering Fluid
  • Brake Fluid
  • Air Conditioning Coolant
  • Washer Fluid

Even if you don’t know the complete function of all of these fluids, you can tell by their names that they are definitely important to your car!  That is why you shouldn’t neglect these proper auto maintenance tips or put off inspections.  It might save money at the time, but it will cost you more money and could also risk your safety down the road.

While you are checking your automobile fluids make sure to also check on the windshield wipers.

#3 Wipers

April showers bring May flowers!  They also increase the wear and tear on your windshield wipers.  The wipers on your car not only protect against the weather.  They help remove obstacles such as pollen or dirt from obstructing your view and can also get rid of debris that might end up on your windshield while driving.

You should replace your windshield wipers every six months to a year depending on various conditions.  However, the easiest way to know if it’s time to replace your windshield wipers is to watch and listen.  If there are streaks or residue after your wipers are done, they are no longer in good condition.  Also, if you hear squeaking as the wipers go across your car windshield, that means they are not making proper contact with the glass.  Which can affect how well your windshield is cleaned.

If you feel up to the task yourself, windshield wipers can be found in many auto repair and home supply stores.  The packaging should come with instructions.  Just make sure you get the right type of wiper for your car model!  Windshield wiper replacement is also something that you can get done at most auto repair shops.

Dirty windshields are not just an unwelcomed eyesore.  It can also affect the glare of other cars’ lights or worsen visibility in regular driving conditions and especially in bad weather.  Keep your windows clear to make sure your trip is safe.
